Young Entrepreneurs Forum
On Wednesday 10th March, 24 business students from Year 9 and 10, attended an event at Rainton Meadows in which over 1000 young people, all business students got the chance to meet some top young entrepreneurs.
Our own year 10 students who formed the company "DiJi Hats" and won the regional Final of the Make Your Mark Challenge in November last year were asked to talk to the audience about their enterprising attitudes and success! This was a terrific honour as no other school was asked to do this!
Students got to meet Kim Inglis who up until 2008 presented Tyne Tees News programmes. Kim is now a freelance journalist and presenter and she interviewed our students for a programme she is making about business and entrepreneurship.
Dan Jermaine, one of the speakers, founded the smoothie drinks company "Innocent" and is currently the Head of Creativity in the company. Innocent became one of the top 3 fastest growing companies and one of Dan's jobs involves designing the doodle drawing on the front of the carton!
Another inspiring entrepreneur who spoke about his business, was Fraser Doherty. Fraser, the "Jam boy", began making jam at the age of 14 using his Gran's secret recipe! He now supplies Asda, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Spar, Tesco and Waitrose supermarkets with his 100% pure fruit "Superjam"!
Fraser is now invited to speak at events all over the world. From humble beginnings he has created a major success!
Fraser is now turning to ethical enterprise and is organising "tea parties" for children and the elderly, giving everyone a chance to enjoy themselves, raise money for charity whilst promoting his product!
