On Monday 18th July Staindrop held its annual 1000 mile walk. The miles are accumulated by students all taking part and with Years 7, 8, 9 and some Year 10 students taking part, over 400 students managed to walk well over 1000 miles!
The students were sponsored to raise money for their efforts. Along with a non-uniform mufti day, held the same day, we should be well on the way towards the aim of raising £8000 for 3 charities. Our chosen charities are the Rotary Club, who provide survival boxes for disaster struck areas; the Oxford Cranio-surgical Centre Oxford; and our own Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
The pictures of the tent show what is included in the survival boxes which the Rotary Club fly out to disaster struck areas. Supplies in the survival boxes provide a family of 6 with shelter and provisions for 2 weeks. This is deemed the most dangerous period following a disaster, when the infrastructure of the country suffering is still in chaos. These survival boxes save lives and our students are aiming to raise funds to buy as many as we can.
