Good morning - Monday 6th February

Good morning, welcome to Staindrop School, County Durham

"Good with outstanding features" - Ofsted January 2011

Mr A Flint

At Staindrop School we cater for all children between the ages of 11 and 16 and have, this year, an intake of approximately 620 pupils. Set on the western edge of the historic village of Staindrop and overlooking rolling fields and farms, Staindrop School is without doubt one of the most attractively situated schools in the region.

Since September 2005 we have been designated a Specialist Business and Enterprise College. This has provided pupils with extra educational opportunities without upsetting the balance of the curriculum.

At Staindrop School we place great importance on academic excellence, continually monitoring our teaching methods and the progress of individual pupils.

In January 2007 we received notification from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust that Staindrop School had achieved membership of the Trust’s most Improved Club thanks to our outstanding examination success over the last three years.  In March 2009 we were awarded "High Performing Specialist School" status due to our examination success in 2008.  This entitled us to bid for a second specialism.  This second specialism, Applied Learning was duly awarded.

End of Summer Term Activities

As we approach the end of a long term there is no slow down in the pace of activities.  Our Academic Managers are organising intensive sessions for students in which they can revise and go over any lessons they may have missed, next week.  If you have any queries or concerns regarding your childs academic progress please email academicmanagers@staindropschool.com or call Mr Freeman or Mr Nicholson at school on 01833 660285.

Our Success Assemblies will be held during the final week of term.  A wonderful opportunity for students to shine, these assemblies are looked forward to by students and staff alike.

Year 7 Success Award Winners

Every term there is a special Success Assembly for each year group.  The high achievers in Year 7 were given a treat for their hard work and given a practical cookery lesson in which they created delicious Muffins.

All of the Year 7 students enjoyed the session with Miss Fowler, and the results were delicious!

Future Business Magnates Success

A small group of Staindrop students were rewarded on Friday 8th July for all of their hard work.  They have been working on a business idea in a regional competition and were delighted to get the award for best business name and best marketing.

Their product was a branded thermal mug.  The students had to complete a series of challenges and were mentioned particularly for their promotional video.  There were only 3 of them compared to other teams of 8-12 so they worked exceptionally well and came 5th overall!

1000 Mile Walk Success

Our 1000 mile walk took place on Monday 18th July.  After a weekend of rain the sun shone and the walk was enjoyed by over 400 students all raising money for Staindrops chosen charities.

Our aim is to raise £8000 in the coing year for our chosen charities.  All pictures and full details are available from the \\\"Information\\\" tab.

In 2010 a staggering 97 per cent of our students achieved five or more GCSE passes at grade A*- C. This is a fantastic result of which we are justifiably proud.  Students and staff worked terrifically hard to sustain exam success at Staindrop.  Our exam results also show that boys and girls do equally well at Staindrop.

Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Every pupil at Staindrop is regarded as an individual and the school is a caring place, where everyone is encouraged to do their best in a safe and welcoming environment. Not only examination success but the all-round achievement of pupils is given high priority at our school.
